The Gorillaz released their newest album 'The Fall' for free to their fans on Christmas day, and it gets even stranger. Frontman Damon Albarn from the British alternative hip-hop group recorded the entire album on his iPad while on tour in America.

Very cool idea from the virtual band that has been doing things in their own unique way since they began in 1998. In this Billboard.com article Albarn states:
"I literally made it on the road in America over a month. I didn't write it before; I didn't prepare it. I just did it day by day as a kind of diary of my experience in America," Albarn says. "If I left it until the New Year to release it, then the cynics out there would say, 'Oh well, it's been tampered with.' But if I put it out now, they'd know that I haven't done anything because I've been on tour ever since."
Good on you Damon. Maybe a sign of artists changing the shape of the music industry, maybe not. Either way, for him to record the entire album on an iPad is a testament to the changing times and also wicked cool. The album is available for free here after a brief registration. Here's track number seven Amarillo:

  1. Neat idea...but it sucks. Innovative techniques are only cool when the music isn't a snore fest.
